Idolatry explores my obsession with nostalgia. I love returning to my memories, worshiping a past through objects and imagery that remind me of my childhood self. Nowhere is this more obvious than in my room.

My room is a shrine to many idols, filled with posters and art and figures and books and toys (including Smash characters of course!) that all serve as a form of comfort through familiarity. It is a shrine to a childlike purity and imagination that I know I can’t return to, but I also recognize growing older isn’t inherently bad. Growing older opens up a new world, with new people, new encounters, new relationships, and new experiences that flourish with (not against) the passage of time. Growing older means to move forward, still carrying a sense of childlike wonder.
